The 2026 conference theme is Transcending Borders and Nationalism – South Asia as cultures, histories, and topography

The Annual Conference on South Asia invites scholars, students, and professionals to Madison, Wisconsin, for a four-day event featuring research panels and round tables, lectures, performances, film screenings, booksellers, association receptions, and other special presentations! The conference has grown year-by-year since its inception in 1971 and welcomed over 1,000 registered attendees in 2025.

Registration Fees

Non-Student: $300
Student: $150
Emeritus: $150

$10 Late fee imposed after October 1

After October 10th, registration fees must be paid upon arrival to the conference. Online registration for all participants closes on October 10th.

Symposium Proposals are due March 1st; Panels, Single Papers, and Round Table Proposals are due April 5th. Film submissions are due April 5th via email.

The last day to register online is October 10th. In person attendees may register upon arrival if unable to register online.

Early bird registration is open until October 1st.

The fee waiver request form opens in August. Please ensure you are receiving conference email announcements for the most accurate deadlines and information on fee waivers.

All attendees can participate in a maximum of two sessions Thursday through Saturday in any role (presenter, organizer, chair, discussant, or some combination of these roles). Symposia are separate and are not included in this limit.
